BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN RESPIRATORY CARE

BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN RESPIRATORY CARE

School Department:

First and only Respiratory Care program in the UAE. The program has been designed to prepare the students to become competent Respiratory Therapists. The program equips students with theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and clinical competency to assess, diagnose and manage a wide range of pulmonary diseases.

OVERVIEW OF THE PROGRAM

The Respiratory Care Program at Khawarizmi International College (KIC) is the first established Respiratory Care (RC) program in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The RC program intends to prepare students to work in the clinical field as Respiratory Care Practitioners, providing aids to patients, who are experiencing difficulty in breathing due to respiratory problems or who suffer from respiratory diseases such as asthma, emphysema or have difficulty maintaining airways.

The RC program at KIC offers students the ability to build their skills from basic to advanced level and to develop management and leadership roles within the profession. Graduates are trained to become advanced respiratory therapists, not only providing basic and advanced diagnostics and rehabilitation/home care services to cardiopulmonary patients, but also competent enough to manage and treat critically ill, and mechanically ventilated patients in critical care.

In addition to performing respiratory care procedures, respiratory therapists are involved in clinical decision‐making such as patient evaluation, selection of appropriate treatment, and assessment of treatment efficacy and patient education.
