BACHELOR OF SCIENCE IN EMERGENCY MEDICAL CARE

School Department: 

The program aims to develop student skills in performing proper procedures, when rendering emergency medical care trauma or medical cases. Graduates will be able to recognize the aspects of an emergency medical care and services system, roles and responsibilities of the EMC specialist, quality improvement, and medical emergency direction. Graduates will also be able to understand the fundamental principles of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics for drugs relevant to emergency medical care.

OVERVIEW OF THE PROGRAM

The Emergency Medical Care program is designed to provide the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and the UAE with the highest level of qualified entry-level candidates to function in the pre-hospital field to:

Provide learning opportunities to develop student competencies in: patient assessment; management of external and internal injuries; medical, cardiac, obstetrics and gynecology emergencies; as well as geriatric, neonatal and pediatric emergencies and emergency vehicle operations.

Develop student skills in performing the proper procedures when rendering emergency medical care to trauma or medical cases.

Prepare and train students, physicians and Paramedics to pass the BLS, ACLS, PALS, PHTLS courses.

Offer personal and professional development programs.

Provide students with a professional educational program in Emergency Medical Care

Graduate professional, competent paramedics to meet the growing needs of the healthcare sector in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, UAE and the region.

Exhibit exemplary professionalism parallel to the ethical standards of the medical profession and in accordance with the teachings and values of the UAE.

To prepare students for recognition by accredited International certification bodies.

DEGREE ACCREDITATION

Accredited by the Ministry of Education (MOE)

ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENTS

A minimum overall average of 70% on the UAE Secondary School Certificate (Scientific / Advanced Stream) or equivalent, approved by the Ministry of Education. 

Health Certificate.

English Proficiency certificate with a minimum score: (IELTS = 5, TOEFL iBT = 61, ITP = 500, from any Higher Education Institute in UAE accredited from MOE).

4 recent photos (passport size).

Copy of a valid passport.

Copy of a valid visa (if applicable).

Copy of UAE National ID Card (if available).

For Continuing or Transfer Students, official transcript and courses description are required (after opening file procedures).

COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS

The student is required to complete 42 courses (a total of 175 credit hours of full-time study), which consist of a combination of General Education, Basic Sciences, Core Supporting Majors and Major courses in Emergency Medical Care, with a cumulative 2.0 GPA  being a minimum grade for graduation.  

The regular duration for completion is 5 years (10 regular semesters), with a maximum of 7 years (14 regular semesters).
